Best known for playing Bill S. Preston, Esq. in the Bill & Ted movies (and for being one of the vampires in The Lost Boys), Alex Winter also has many directing credits to his name, including the 1993 cult classic oddball comedy Freaked. His latest feature directorial effort is Adulthood, which is described as a darkly comic modern noir – and Variety reports that Adulthood has secured a U.S. and Canada distribution deal with Republic Pictures. A release date has not yet been announced.

Winter provided the following statement: “I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Republic Pictures for the North American sales and release of our film. They have great instincts and are dedicated to quality indie movies.

Scripted by novelist Michael M.B. Galvin, Adulthood tells the story of sister and brother Megan and Noah, who are barely hanging on in present day America. When they discover a dead body, long buried in their parents’ basement, the siblings are pulled back to the hometown they ran away from and into a rabbit hole of crime and murder.

The film stars Josh Gad (Wolf Like Me), Kaya Scodelario (Crawl), Billie Lourd (American Horror Story), and Anthony Carrigan (Barry).

Winter also appears in an acting role, and produced Adulthood with Scott Kroopf, Russell Hollander, and Lisa Wolofsky, as well as Michael Cho and Tim Lee of Olive Hill Media, and Danny Roberts, H.S. Naji, and Jackie Langelier of Fresh Fish Films. Olive Hill Media and Fresh Fish Films provided the funding. Connie Tavel serves as an executive producer alongside Mimi Rode of Olive Hill Media and Thorsten Schumacher of Rocket Science. Rocket Science is currently arranging finance for international sales.

Michael M.B. Galvin previously worked on the screenplay for the 1999 comedy Freak Talks About Sex (which was based on one of his novels) and Matthew Lillard’s 2012 feature directorial debut, Fat Kid Rules the World. On the acting side of his career, Alex Winter was most recently seen in the horror comedy Destroy All Neighbors.

When the TV series based on the popular video game franchise Twisted Metal made its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in July, it quickly became one of Peacock’s top five original series, racking up 400 million viewing minutes in its first weekend and earning the honor of being the streamer’s “most-binged” premiere. Now season 2 is speeding ahead, and Variety reports that Anthony Carrigan of the HBO series Barry has signed on to play the video game character Calypso! As the casting announcement describes him, Calypso is “the mysterious, charismatic host and creator of a dangerous demolition derby tournament, who invites all assassins, vigilantes, mercenaries and joyriders to participate. To the winner, he offers the prize of making their greatest wish come true, but with Calypso there’s always a twist.

Also joining the cast in unspecified recurring guest roles are Richard de Klerk (A Teenage Prophet), Patty Guggenheim (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), and Tiana Okoye (Mrs. Davis).

Based on an original take by Deadpool and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, this adaptation of the Twisted Metal franchise centers on a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) stars in the series as John Doe, “a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, John gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.” Neve Campbell (Scream) plays a character named Raven, Thomas Haden Church (Wings) is Agent Stone, “a cold and unyielding post-apocalyptic highway patrolman who rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist, prosecuting even the smallest crimes with the harshest of judgements. Agent Stone will stop at nothing to bring law and order back to the Divided States of America, and will kill anyone in his path who defies his power”; and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) is Quiet, “a ferocious, badass car thief who acts purely on instinct – you couldn’t stop her any more than a manhole could stop a volcano. Coming from a community that oppressed her into silence, Quiet’s wish is to find her place in this dark, chaotic world. But when she becomes clouded by her need for revenge, Quiet forms an unlikely, antagonistic bond with John Doe”.

Also in the cast are Mike Mitchell (The Tomorrow War) and Tahj Vaughans (P-Valley) as buddies Stu and Mike, “the Rosencrantz & Guildenstern of this world, and together often find themselves to be more followers than fighters”; Lou Beatty Jr. (A Million Little Things) as Tommy, “a grizzled and weathered cartographer who knows the dangers of the Wild Midwest”; and Richard Cabral (Mayans M.C.) as Quiet’s overprotective brother Loud. AEW wrestler Joe Seanoa, a.k.a Samoa Joe, plays iconic video game character Sweet Tooth, with Will Arnett (Arrested Development) providing the character’s voice.

Michael Jonathan Smith (who also happens to be a writer on Cobra Kai) is the Twisted Metal showrunner. Mackie, Smith, Arnett, Reese, and Wernick executive produce the Twisted Metal series alongside director Kitao Sakurai and Marc Forman of Electric Avenue, Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato of Artists First, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, and Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios. The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, Playstation Productions, and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

It was announced just yesterday that Anthony Carrigan (Barry) had joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy as Metamorpho and the actor couldn’t be more thrilled.

I’m gobsmacked,” Anthony Carrigan told Deadline regarding his Metamorpho casting. “I think it’s just such an exciting new chapter, and such an exciting new chapter for DC. I think this movie has the potential to just really knock everyone’s socks off, and with James Gun at the helm, I think it’s just going to be so much fun.” Carrigan continued, “I’m thrilled to be a part of it. I’m honored to be playing this part, and I’m playing a hero. So, on top of everything, that’s pretty rad.

Anthony Carrigan is best known for playing Chechen gangster NoHo Hank on HBO’s Barry. His work on the final season of the series recently scored him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The actor went on to explain the resonance the role of Metamorpho had for him.

I certainly think that at least in the source material, Metamorpho, when he was transformed into his superhero state, I think he was very reluctant to have it because he felt like he was a freak and he felt like he was no longer who he was. I can certainly kind of relate to that, in terms of my alopecia. So, that’s definitely something that I’ll be channeling and am excited to bring to the character itself.”

It was recently announced that Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) had joined the cast to play Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps, with Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) and Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) signing on to play Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific, respectively. The leading roles of the movie were filled just a few weeks ago, with David Corenswet (Pearl) set to play Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane.

James Gunn will write and direct Superman: Legacy, and he has promised that the tone of the movie will be different from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Co-chair of DC Studios Peter Safran has also teased that Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

As Kevin Smith has pointed out, James Gunn is doing something unique in his position and continues to engage directly with the fans on social media by answering their inquiries. As more and more information on his new DC universe introductory film, Superman: Legacy, gets revealed, loyalists to the brand will naturally be curious as to where he’ll be taking his new direction. Gunn recently fielded questions about why he decided to include characters such as Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Guy Gardner in his upcoming film, to which his reply was that they serve the story he wants to tell.

Recently, on Threads, a fan cited an article that claimed that the former 007 James Bond, Daniel Craig, was offered the Lex Luthor role in Superman: Legacy and asked Gunn if it was true, and Gunn was blunt in dispelling the story.

It was recently announced that Barry‘s breakout star, Anthony Carrigan, has been cast as Metamorpho. Fans showed their concern that the recent announcement of three additional superheroes being featured in the Superman reboot might make the new film crowded. A Threads user addressed to Gunn, “I’m a little worried the film will focus too much on setting up other superhero movies, will the other superheroes have a big impact on the story or will they just play a small part in the story. I still trust you’ll do something clever with it, because GOTG and TSS felt so disconnected from everything else in their franchises.” Gunn would respond, “l’ve never used one movie to set up another movie. The characters are there because they help to tell Superman’s story better, not so we can set up separate projects in the franchise. Superman and Lois are the very clear protagonists.”

Superman: Legacy is also reportedly not intending to be another origin story, as every new incarnation details Clark Kent’s rise to his calling. Although Gunn already addressed the addition of multiple superhero characters, all with their distinct backgrounds, a fan wanted Gunn to elaborate on how cramming more would help serve his story. A fan asked, “But can you elaborate a little more on how including all these heroes is going to help tell Superman’s story in this movie?” To which Gunn replied, “We’re entering a world where superheroes exist and have existed for quite a while. They’re a part of one side of his world just like Lois and Jimmy are a part of another.”

James Gunn seems to be packing Superman: Legacy full of heroes. THR reports that Anthony Carrigan, best known for his exemplary work on HBO’s Barry, has joined the cast of Superman: Legacy as Metamorpho, a hero who can “transmute elements in his body into various forms, taking those properties on as powers.

Metamorpho was created by Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon in 1965. Also known as Rex Mason, the character was originally an archeologist, but later became a detective and a founding member of The Outsiders after gaining his abilities. The eclectic look of the character and his unique powers are exactly the type that James Gunn loves to work with. Playing Metamorpho in Superman: Legacy will be the biggest movie Anthony Carrigan has taken on, but it’s not like the actor is unknown. His work on the final season of Barry recently scored him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

The leading roles of the movie were filled just two weeks ago, with David Corenswet (Pearl) set to play Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane. As for why these casting announcements are coming fast and furious, THR’s report notes that a SAG-AFTRA strike could begin as early as midnight, which means that any negotiations would come to a halt.

The curtain is closing on Barry, HBO‘s dark comedy series about a hit man from the Midwest who moves to Los Angeles and falls in love with the stage. HBO released its Barry Season 4 trailer on Wednesday, featuring Bill Hader’s irredeemable character losing his grip and creating chaos, even behind bars. The Emmy-winning series returns with the first of eight episodes on April 16, 2023, on HBO, with new episodes every Sunday until the May 28 series finale.

Here’s the official logline for Barry Season 4:

Cousineau (Henry Winkler) is hailed as a hero as Barry’s (Bill Hader) arrest has shocking consequences. It’s all been leading up to this – Barry’s explosive and hilarious final chapter.

That description isn’t much to go on. HBO may be trying not to spoil the events, but still, talk about crumbs. In HBO’s Barry Season 4 trailer, Barry (Bill Hader) is remorseful about his actions while rotting in prison. As Timber Timbre’s “Run From Me” plays, Barry loses his grip and begins punishing himself for past mistakes. While Barry stews in a mess of his own making, his friends and enemies try making a new path for themselves, away from Barry’s influence. However, even though Barry is in prison, the fallout from his actions is rippling through his old life. Soon, no one will be safe from the aftershocks.

The Emmy-nominated cast of regular players for Barry includes Stephen Root as Monroe Fuches, Sarah Goldberg as Sally Reed, Anthony Carrigan as Noho Hank, Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau, and Robert Wisdom as Jim Moss. Returning recurring guest cast includes Michael Irby as Cristobal; Fred Melamed as Tom Posorro; Andrew Leeds as Leo; Jessy Hodges as Lindsay; new guest star Patrick Fischler as Lon Oneil.

Barry was created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, executive produced by Bill Hader, Alec Berg, Aida Rodgers, and Liz Sarnoff, co-executive produced by Duffy Coudreau, and produced by Julie Camino. Hader directs all eight episodes of Barry Season 4.

A few months ago, actor Anthony Carrigan – who plays NoHo Hank on the HBO dark comedy crime series Barrysaid that season 4 would be the show’s final season. We didn’t doubt Carrigan, but we still needed HBO to officially confirm that Barry was wrapping up… and now that confirmation has come. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that HBO announced the eight episode fourth season of Barry is the end.

Star Bill Hader, who created Barry with Alec Berg, provided the following statement: “It’s been an amazing journey making this show, and it’s bittersweet that the story has come to its natural conclusion.

HBO’s Amy Gravitt added: “After three masterful seasons of Barry, we are eager for viewers to see the powerful, complex and hilarious conclusion to Barry Berkman’s story. It has been a pleasure working with this immensely talented team including Bill Hader, Alec Berg, Aida Rodgers and the entire exceptional cast and crew.

Barry tells the following story: Barry, a disillusioned hit man, is sent to Los Angeles to kill an aspiring actor who is having an affair with a Chechen mob leader’s wife; after following his target to an acting class, Barry becomes inspired to begin a new life with the students. Here’s the synopsis for season 3 (read our review HERE): Desperate to leave his violent past behind in favor of his newfound passion, Barry is attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting. But getting out is messy. While Barry has eliminated many of the external factors that pushed him towards violence, he soon discovers they weren’t the only forces at play. What is it about his own psyche that led him to become a killer in the first place? Season three finds Barry and the other characters trying to make the right choice.

Hader and Carrigan are joined in the cast by Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Glenn Fleshler, Henry Winkler, D’Arcy Carden, Michael Irby, and Sarah Burns.

Barry season 4 is set to make its debut on April 16th.

Barry, season 4

With the third season of Barry concluding earlier this year, there have been rumours that the upcoming fourth season may be the last for the HBO series. While speaking with the Hollywood At Home with The Creative Coalition podcast, Anthony Carrigan, who plays NoHo Hank, confirmed that Barry season 4 will bring the series to a close.

During the podcast, Anthony Carrigan was asked if Barry season 4 would be the end of the series, with the actor replying, “Yeah.” The season 3 finale could have been the end of Barry, but Bill Hader told Vulture that he knew there was more to the story. “Well dying, the story’s over, and I thought there was more story,” Hader said. “There’s only so long a guy can get away with this. I know I feel watching shows sometimes, ‘They’re trying to keep the thing going and now it’s getting ridiculous to keep the thing going.’ And so, I think he would get caught. He’s not Jason Bourne or Walter White. He’s not a genius. He’s a very dumb guy. And it made sense, the idea of Gene Cousineau wanting justice for Janice and then getting it by the end, but he has to go through a transformation himself to get it.

HBO hasn’t officially confirmed that Barry season 4 will be the last, but several of the actors have guessed that will be the case. Henry Winkler told Variety at the Primetime Emmy Awards that co-creators Bill Hader and Alec Berg would “never try to stretch” the series, adding, “they don’t want to push it.” As a performer, he hopes that Barry will continue, if only so he can continue acting in it.

Desperate to leave his violent past behind in favor of his newfound passion, Barry is attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting,” reads the official description of Barry season 3. “But getting out is messy. While Barry has eliminated many of the external factors that pushed him towards violence, he soon discovers they weren’t the only forces at play. What is it about his own psyche that led him to become a killer in the first place? Season three finds Barry and the other characters trying to make the right choice.” You can check out a review of the third season from our own Alex Maidy right here.

Who’s ready for a killer comeback because HBO has announced the Barry Season 3 premiere date. Bill Hader will return as the titular character on Sunday, April 24. Also set to stream on HBO Max, Barry Season 3 will consist of eight episodes.

“Season three, more than anything, shows the ramifications of [Barry’s violence],” Hader told critics at the Television Critics Association’s virtual press tour session on Tuesday. “Even more bad things happen. Mostly bad.”

“What’s interesting all of the wreckage of seasons one and two that Barry had to do to keep the plates spinning … all goes back to his decision to become an actor,” adds Barry co-creator Alec Berg. “I really enjoy the fact that everything that happens in the show is a consequence of Barry wanting a better life and every bit of that better life he’s trying to achieve has led to all this chaos.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6TZdk1t8Zo

In addition to the Barry Season 3 premiere date, an official description for the upcoming episodes has also emerged:

“Desperate to leave his violent past behind in favor of his newfound passion, Barry (Hader) is attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting. But getting out is messy. While Barry has eliminated many of the external factors that pushed him towards violence, he soon discovers they weren’t the only forces at play. What is it about his own psyche that led him to become a killer in the first place? Season three finds Barry and the other characters trying to make the right choice.”

Also returning for a season that looks to explore what makes its killer tick are Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan, Henry Winkler, and Sarah Burns.

Barry has received 30 Emmy nominations for its outstanding excellence. The show managed to snag six of those 30 awards, including one for Bill Hader for Best Actor in a Comedy Series and one for Henry Winkler for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Barry fans are bound to be overjoyed now that they finally have a Season 3 release date. Three years is a long time to wait for just about anything. Especially when it relates to one of your favorite hit shows returning for another stab at comedy and murder. Let’s go!

In the new film Fatherhood by director Paul Weitz, Kevin Hart portrays a man bringing up his daughter alone. It's a moving, funny, and charming feature, one that offers a terrific performance from Mr. Hart – even if his amazing co-star Melody Hurd tends to steal the show. The film also features a strong supporting cast with Lil Rel Howery, DeWanda Wise, Paul Reiser, Alfre Woodard, and Anthony Carrigan. While it is certainly funny, there's much here that will bring a tear to your eye, and those moments are what bring this lovely film to life. With Father's Day coming up, and the easy accessibility of Netflix, this is one movie that is likely to connect to a massive audience thanks to its strong script and inspiring message. It's also one of Mr. Hart's best performances to date, along with his amazing co-star.

While we already presented to you our interview with Kevin Hart and Melody Hurd, we're thrilled to bring you more. For the film's press day, we also spoke to the incredibly charismatic Lil Rel Howery and DeWanda Wise. For Howery – who continues to add strong support and charm – he opened up about playing the best pal and finding that right connection. And for the lovely Ms. Wise, she had terrific things to say about working alongside both Hart and Hurd.

Next up, we spoke to both the filmmaker himself, Paul Weitz, and the incredibly endearing Anthony Carrigan. First up, Mr. Weitz opened up about giving Kevin Hart something more than just an over-the-top comedy to work with. I've been a fan of the director ever since American Pie, and his gift of balancing heart and humor brings real warmth to his latest. And then there is Mr. Carrigan who creates one of my favorite characters in the film. The actor is incredibly appealing, and really very charming in person. He opened up about his approach to this film, and he was simply a joy to talk with.

Fatherhood is delightful – just have a box of tissue available – and it premieres this Friday on Netflix… Just in time for Father's Day. So happy Father's Day to all you dads out there!
